#113 Goals for the Festive Season
December is almost here!
It might not seem like it, but now is a great time to set some goals.
It is a great idea to decide on your strategy for the festive season, what do you want to achieve?
Are you going to:
- Lose weight
- Maintain your current weight
- Be comfortable gaining 2-3 kilos
- Get fitter
- Take it easy
Be honest with yourself and write your intention down.
I'm a big believer in putting pen to paper as one of the first steps to committing to a goal.
Having a clear intention means you're making a conscious choice and that choice will help guide your decisions over the next two months.
I advocate for keeping any weight gain under 3kg, in my experience over this can be soul-destroying and far more challenging to get back off.
The average kiwi gains 3-5kg over the holiday season and most do not lose it again making it cumulative year after year.
To be successful, you need to stick to what you've committed to, even when it's tough and you really don't want to. That means one piece of Christmas Cake when you want two, one bowl of ice cream when you want three and one glass of wine when you want five!
Make sure that you are fully committed to your goal. If not then change it, be realistic - do not go in half-hearted. It is better to fully commit to maintaining than fail at losing.

In Blog #66: We discuss how you can create some healthy habits during the festive season and focus on "change downs" or "food swaps" for healthier nibble options.
In Blog #67 I outline some great "change downs" for dips so you make healthy choices with a range of bases from plain yoghurt to cream cheese, avocado or hummus. You're only limited by your imagination!
Sheryl's Story
I have been working online with Ginny for the past 12 weeks.
In that time, I have made improvements to my health by making huge changes to my eating and exercise habits.
I came into this programme almost as a last resort, after a promise from my doctor that I would be on medication for diabetes if I did not improve my blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure levels; and the only way to do this was by eating better and losing weight. While he has told me this before, this time my blood sugar levels were higher than they had ever been and I figured that at age 66 ½ I am running out of chances.
I have tried so many times to lose weight and know that it is so easy to say I can, yet so hard to do. I have always felt like there was a component that was missing in this – something always sabotaged my efforts and I gave up.
We are intelligent women and we know what to do, but something stops us from doing it! What is it and Why?
I have even been a client of Ginny’s quite a few years ago and always enjoyed her outlook on life, so started watching her Facebook live sessions.
The introduction to her “Weight Loss Mindset And Motivation” programme struck a chord!! The missing key – my mindset!
I am so pleased (and grateful) that I have Ginny to support my journey. I have absolutely loved every minute of this online programme.
Working online means I can work on the programme whenever and wherever I like!
There is a huge amount of support from Ginny, including a mixture of live and recorded information and workshops available.
Each week Ginny covers a different topic and all the lessons (including recipes) are easy to find and revisit.
She is very easy to contact through e-mail, comments under the online lessons, or Messenger and has always answered my queries within a day.
Online there are regular interactive group sessions via Zoom, which are recorded for revisiting.
It is almost like having Ginny in my house!
Ginny is the most positive person I know when it comes to losing weight as she is soooo realistic about losing weight and being healthy.
She has been to all the places we have been to and knows all the tricks in the book we use to delude ourselves (and others).
She shares her story honestly and offers a great balance of advice, challenge and encouragement. At the same time, it is up to us to do the hard work and put in the effort – the more I put in, the more I get out of the programme.
The other huge advantage of working online with Ginny is time and travel.
Previously I lived too far away to attend group sessions or exercise classes, so I am rapt to be back working with Ginny from the comfort of my own home!
