#128 Why you should be Strength Training
I believe that I am living in a 40-50 yr old body at the age of 62 because of the benefits of training with heavy weights.
I have been strength training for over 20 years. I started going to the gym when my boobs started going south in my 40s! And I have never looked back, there are many times that I don't want to train and would rather just go for a walk but once it is done I never regret it!
Think of training with weights as the best anti ageing tool in your toolbox and one of the best for weight loss too!
Start now to prevent and reverse the effects of age on muscles, bones and joints.
- Reduce inflammation
- Reduce joint pain
- Increase bone density
- Increase your metabolism
- Avoid becoming old and frail before your time
- Keep your hormone levels up
- Drive food into your muscles rather than around your waist
- Prevent type 2 diabetes
- Keep your brain sharp
- Fill up loose skin with beautifully toned muscle tissue
- Keep your neuromuscular pathways strong to avoid trips and falls and keep a good range of motion in your joints
- Keep your body in growth mode rather than gradual decay
Build up to lifting heavy weights at least 2-3 times a week. I am in and out of the gym in 45 minutes, it will take you less time to start with. Commit to doing this for the rest of your life!!
It is never too late to start reaping the benefits. Whether you are 40 or 90 you can start to reverse the effects of ageing on your muscles, joints and bones.
If you can, find a good personal trainer to walk you through a program. Training well with weights is a skill. Don't risk hurting yourself with bad form or a poorly designed program.
