#166 How relapses can be a positive part of your weightloss journey
Relapses are a positive part of your journey not a reason to give up.
I want you to embrace the fact that relapses aka, binges, bad food choices, storm eats, and fuck it eats are all a normal part of your weight loss journey.
After the shiny newness of a new program wears off or after you have lost some of your weight. You are using less 'white-knuckled motivation' you will have days when you choose in the moment to eat off your plan- we all do!
When this happens don’t use it as an excuse to give up, stay on the train.
Embrace these relapses as an opportunity to learn a little more about yourself. To learn about the eating patterns that got you overweight in the first place.
How do you use food as a crutch or for comfort?
In these moments you can choose to beat yourself up and use it as evidence 'that you will never lose weight', 'it is just too hard and that you knew all along that you would never be able to do it'. Because you don't have enough willpower. That you are useless, and you may as well give up. You can choose to resign yourself to staying overweight or getting even bigger- because that is all you deserve.
Or you can embrace the off-plan eats as part of the process and get on with the rest of your day as planned.
Having an oopsy doesn’t mean that you are a bad person. It doesn’t mean that you can’t do this. You haven’t fucked it up until you give up.
It just means that you are a human.
It means that you have learnt behaviour patterns and coping mechanisms that you haven’t unlearnt yet. It is completely normal.
- You are not perfect.
- You don’t have to be perfect.
- Some days are awesome and easy.
- Some days are out and out damage control. You do the best that you can.
- Some days you fail to do the best that you can. -So what?
- You are still on this journey.
- Not just to your goal weight but to your goal life.
- The life that you live without being haunted by your food choices, the life of freedom from being obsessed with food and weight, the life of health and wellness that you deserve.
Stop the emotional chatter – get rid of the drama, it is only food!!!
Tomorrow will be a better day because of what you learnt about yourself and how you use food today.
Embrace the relapses and use them as part of your journey each one is a learning opportunity – get curious about them, assess them and analyze them but never judge them.
Being aware of them, and being accountable for them with no self-judgement is key.
You overate – that is the fact of the matter.
Don’t attach negative thoughts to it that will result in feelings of shame and a reason to give up.
Treat them as learning opportunities that make you stronger in your journey.
As I say in the video every time you fall you get stronger.
