#205 Your Easter Survival Guide
Surviving the Easter Bunny – How to Enjoy Easter Without the Guilt
Are you already eyeing up those Cadbury cream eggs and packets of hot cross buns? Trust me, I've been there. Those delicious cream eggs used to call my name as soon as they appeared on shop shelves. One egg quickly became two or three, each packed with nearly 200 calories, six and a half grams of fat, and a staggering 26 grams (that's over six teaspoons!) of sugar per egg.
Maybe your weakness is hot cross buns—buying them every supermarket visit, inevitably consuming more than you'd intended. This is what happens when we let our "habit brain," or "Labrador brain" as we call it at Outlook, make food choices for us.
Since learning to manage my mindset around food, I've transformed how I approach Easter. Now, I "eat on purpose." What does this mean?
-
Plan to enjoy two or three top-quality hot cross buns on Good Friday.
-
Choose one hollow dark chocolate Easter egg on Easter Sunday and savour every bite.
-
Celebrate with a guilt-free family meal, without overeating.
-
Prepare wholesome meals around these planned treats. I've just batch-cooked a roasted veggie medley, veggie soup and a hearty chili bean recipe to keep me nourished and satisfied.
Planning ahead feels great—it allows you to enjoy Easter treats fully without the regret and uncomfortable fullness. And don’t forget to stay active with family walks, tramps, and Easter egg hunts to enjoy the lovely autumn weather here in New Zealand.
What are your Easter food plans? Will you wing it or plan ahead?
